Cyclospora: 616 and counting

With Darden Restaurants' Red Lobster and Olive Garden chains recently linked to an outbreak of illnesses related to Cyclospora, food safety experts offer tips on minimizing risk. 

From late June to press time in late August, 616 cases of Cyclospora infection in 22 states have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and one restaurant company — Darden Restaurants Inc. — has so far been linked to some of those cases.

Both Olive Garden and Red Lobster units in Nebraska and Iowa have been associated with the outbreak through a salad mix supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico, which voluntarily suspended production and shipment
