Paul McCartney to be latest Starbucks offering

SEATTLE Sir Paul McCartney will record the first album to be released by Starbucks Corp.’s new co-owned music label, which will distribute its compact disks in part through the coffee chain’s outlets, the company told shareholders Wednesday.

The recording label, Hear Music, is a partnership between Starbucks and Concord Music Group. Its products will also be sold through conventional music outlets.

“Having the honor of releasing an album by Paul McCartney as our first project under the Hear Music label is, in a word, remarkable,” said Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks’ entertainment operation.

The as-yet-untitled album will be released in June, Starbucks said.

Terms of Hear’s deal with the former Beatle were not disclosed.  McCartney made a surprise appearance via satellite at Starbucks annual shareholders’ meeting, where the deal was announced.
