Papa John’s picks new domestic president

LOUISVILLE Ky. Papa John’s International Inc. promoted William Mitchell to president of its U.S. division, as seven-year company veteran Bill Van Epps resigned the post to pursue other interests.

Mitchell will be responsible for leading corporate and franchised restaurant operations, real estate and new business development in the United States, Papa John’s said Wednesday. Van Epps will stay on for some time to assist with the executive transition.

Prior to his promotion, Mitchell served as Papa John’s senior vice president of domestic operations, division vice president for the Midwest and operations vice president for the central United States. Before joining Papa John’s, he was an executive with AFC Enterprises where his various roles included senior director of franchise operations for Popeye’s. He also worked at RTM Restaurant Group where he oversaw Mrs. Winner’s operations in Georgia.

Mitchell will report directly to John Schnatter, Papa John’s chairman and interim chief executive. The pizza delivery company operates or franchises more than 3,300 locations worldwide.
