Cracker Barrel comps flat in May

LEBANON Tenn. CBRL Group Inc. reported that same-store restaurant sales for its Cracker Barrel Old Country Store chain were flat for the four weeks ended May 30, despite 3.5-percent higher check average.

The higher checks reflected a 3.7-percent average increase in menu prices, indicating that traffic was negative in May, compared with the four weeks ended June 1, 2007.

Same-store retail sales rose 2.3 percent in May, CBRL said.

Year to date, same-store restaurant sales are up 0.9 percent, which reflect 3.3-percent higher check averages. Same-store retail sales are down 0.4 percent for the year so far, CBRL said.

CBRL, based here, operates 576 Cracker Barrel restaurants and gift shops.
