AFC Enterprises 3Q profit jumps 30%

Chicken Waffle Tenders promotion boosts same-store sales

AFC Enterprises Inc., parent to the quick-service Popeyes chain, reported Wednesday a 30-percent increase in net income during the third quarter ended Oct. 6, saying back-to-back promotions of its Chicken Waffle Tenders and its signature bone-in chicken during the quarter helped drive a global same-store sales increase of 5.1 percent.

The Atlanta-based company opened 33 net units, ending the quarter with 2,187 restaurants in the U.S. and its territories, as well as 27 foreign countries.
 

NET INCOME

Result: $9 million, or 37 cents per share
% Increase: 30% (from $6.9 million, or 29 cents per share)

REVENUE

Result: $49.3 million
% Increase: 27% (from $38.9 million)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase at systemwide domestic units: 5.1%


% Increase at systemwide international units: 5.1%


% Increase at company-owned units: 4.8%
