LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2009) With many Americans keeping an eye on their wallets and waistlines during the holiday season, KFC has rolled out a special meal promotion priced at a penny per calorie.

Selling for $3.95 plus tax, the 395-calorie Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal includes a Kentucky Grilled Chicken drumstick and thigh, green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy.

The 15,000-plus-unit chicken chain launched a marketing campaign for the 395-calorie KGC meal touting it as “a great choice” for calorie-conscious consumers and weighing it against some of KFC’s competitors’ options. The ads compare the meal favorably to Dunkin’ Donuts Honey Bran Raisin Muffin; a McDonald’s Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich and Snack Size Fruit & Walnut Salad; and a Subway 6-inch B.M.T. sandwich.

“Whether you’re counting your calories or pinching your pennies, this Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal can help you watch both,” said Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC.
