Wendy's adds Frosty Shakes to menu

DUBLIN Ohio Wendy's is expanding its Frosty empire with a line of "hand-spun" shakes, the company said Wednesday.

The No. 3 burger chain is rolling out the Frosty Shakes nationwide after tests that began in select markets late last year.

The shakes are available in Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla Bean and Strawberry flavors. They're topped with whipped cream and a cherry and served with a straw, suggesting a lighter consistency than the regular Frosty, which is eaten with a spoon.

Wendy's said it would support the new shakes with a national ad campaign, set to break next month, that will highlight the treats' premium ingredients, such as five varieties of cocoa, vanilla beans and a strawberry sauce made from real strawberries.

The original Frosty frozen treat was on the menu of the first Wendy’s, which founder Dave Thomas opened in 1969. Since July 2006, Wendy’s has introduced a Vanilla Frosty, a Frosty Float and the Twisted Frosty, which is mixed with candy.

The next Frosty variation will debut later this month, when Wendy's said it would roll out a Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough Twisted Frosty.

Wendy's, based here, said it serves more than 350 million Frosty treats a year.
