Tyson Food Service sponsors 7th annual J&W intracollegiate competition for culinary arts

PROVIDENCE R.I. —Tyson Food Service, which is based in Spring-dale, Ark., sponsored the seventh annual Intracollegiate Culinary Competition at the Johnson & Wales University campus here.

Culinary arts and baking and pastry students from J&W’s four campuses competed for gold, silver and bronze awards at the competition, which is sanctioned by the American Culinary Federation. —Tyson Food Service, which is based in Spring-dale, Ark., sponsored the seventh annual Intracollegiate Culinary Competition at the Johnson & Wales University campus here.

The Denver team won gold and first place in the culinary arts division, followed by the Charlotte and Providence teams, which also won gold, and the North Miami team, which took home the bronze. —Tyson Food Service, which is based in Spring-dale, Ark., sponsored the seventh annual Intracollegiate Culinary Competition at the Johnson & Wales University campus here.

The teams, which were made up of full-time enrolled students from the four campuses, adhered to ACF guidelines in the competition. They competed in two phases: a skills demonstration and a cooking and baking competition. Judges scored the teams based on the food’s taste and appearance, nutritional balance, and practicality and creativity. Uta Schepers, corporate chef for Tyson Food Service, who was one of the judges, said: “As a former competitor and coach in the ICC, it was thrilling to participate in the competition as a judge.
