Taco Bell ties free tacos to World Series theft

IRVINE Calif. Taco Bell will reprise its “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion when the World Series begins Wednesday. If any player on either the Philadelphia Phillies or Tampa Bay Rays steals a base during the series, Taco Bell will offer everyone in the United States one free crunchy beef taco. The offer extends only to the first stolen base.

Taco Bell, the official Quick Service Restaurant of Major League Baseball, gave away “millions” of tacos when the promotion was held for the first time last year, said chief marketing officer David Ovens.

If the first stolen base this year occurs during the first four games, free tacos will be available Oct. 28 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. local time at participating Taco Bell units. If the first base is stolen in during the last three games, free tacos will be available Nov. 3.

Marketing support includes TV spots, a full-page ad in USA Today and on-screen mentions during broadcasts.

Taco Bell, which has nearly 5,600 U.S. units, will donate $20,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in the name of the player who steals the first base.

Last fall, Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury stole second base in the bottom of the fourth inning of Game 2.
