Restaurateur puts kibosh on Taboo with plans to retire

STOCKTON, CALIF. —If you’ve got a yen for some alligator, rattlesnake or other exotic meat, visit Taboo by the Delta soon before it shuts its doors forever.

The restaurant, owned and operated by Jesse “Boo” Burkett, is set to close June 1 when Burkett retires. According to the Associated Press, the restaurant, which has been in business for 10 years, has served everything from shark, frog legs and turtles to kangaroo and black bears, which Burkett took off the menu after the California Department of Fish and Game told him that serving them was illegal. —If you’ve got a yen for some alligator, rattlesnake or other exotic meat, visit Taboo by the Delta soon before it shuts its doors forever.

Burkett said the restaurant’s name reflects “things that are forbidden, things that would hurt you.” —If you’ve got a yen for some alligator, rattlesnake or other exotic meat, visit Taboo by the Delta soon before it shuts its doors forever.

“People just buy into it,” he said. “However, you do get negative reactions sometimes.” —If you’ve got a yen for some alligator, rattlesnake or other exotic meat, visit Taboo by the Delta soon before it shuts its doors forever.
