Restaurant honors actor with quiet booth in romantic fashion

NEW YORK —Nirvana 54, a new Indian restaurant here, has honored actor Richard Gere with a somewhat dubious distinction: It has named its most hidden and romantic table after him.

Turns out that when Gere was a young bachelor and the restaurant was called simply Nirvana, he would show up regularly with different women and always request the most secluded table in the house, the New York Post reported. According to restaurant owner Shamsher Wadud, “Richard would drink only champagne with the food and always paid his tab in cash.” —Nirvana 54, a new Indian restaurant here, has honored actor Richard Gere with a somewhat dubious distinction: It has named its most hidden and romantic table after him.
