Quiznos unit reopens after salmonella outbreak

ROCHESTER Minn. A Quiznos sandwich shop here reopened after voluntarily closing for a day when local health officials reported an outbreak of salmonella poising that sickened at least 10 people, including three employees.

The Minnesota Department of Health and Olmsted County Public Health Services inspected the restaurant in northwest Rochester and cleared it for reopening, Quiznos officials reported. The franchised unit had closed Oct. 17, but opened in time for lunch Oct. 19.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined, said Clyde Rucker, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for the Denver-based franchisor. Quiznos franchises more than 5,000 shops worldwide.

“We are empathetic for those affected because the health and safety of our customers and employees is our paramount concern,” Rucker said.
