Quiznos makes another top-level hire

DENVER Quiznos is continuing to rebuild its management team with the appointment of former Papa John's franchisee and executive Richard J. Emmett as executive vice president and chief legal officer.

On May 1, he succeeds Pat Meyers, who remains a director and principal in the quick-service sandwich-shop franchisor. Emmett would report to president and chief executive Greg Brenneman, whose TurnWorks Inc. private-equity firm bought an undisclosed stake in the franchisor in January.

Quiznos indicated that Emmett will be its point person in litigation and franchise regulatory matters. The chain is a defendant in several lawsuits filed by disgruntled franchisees.

Emmett previously served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Papa John's International Inc., the pizzeria operator and franchisor based in Louisville, Ky.

"Rich brings a wealth of quick-service management experience to Quiznos," Brenneman said in a prepared statement. "His tenure at Papa John's, not only as a member of senior management, but also as a franchisee, will service him well in promoting the growth and prosperity of all aspects of our business."

In early March, Brenneman hired former KFC executive Steve Provost to serve as the sandwich chain's executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Simultaneously, Michael Elliot, a former franchising consultant, was named executive vice president of franchise owner assistance.

Quiznos is the franchisor of about 5,000 restaurants.
