Ponderosa, Bonanza switch to Choice

PLANO Texas The Ponderosa and Bonanza family steakhouse chains are upgrading this month to USDA Choice sirloin steaks at all 308 restaurants.

"This gives our guests a premium product for a great price," said Steve Welsh, vice president of marketing for the Ponderosa and Bonanza brands, which are owned by Metromedia Restaurant Group here. He asserted that the change in meat would allow the chains to compete with casual-dining concepts.

The steakhouses will now offer a half-pound Choice sirloin with an all-you-can-eat buffet for $9.99. Additionally, the restaurants are serving Choice sirloin combos with an option of grilled shrimp, fried shrimp or grilled chicken Monterey with the buffet for $11.99.

The steak introduction, a permanent upgrade at both concepts, is being supported by a TV and print advertising campaign through June 25, the company said.
