Pizza Patron to start selling calling cards

DALLAS Pizza Patron Inc., the 65-unit chain aimed at the Hispanic market, plans to start selling by-the-day calling cards to Mexico.

The chain will begin selling the cards July 27 in the amounts of $5 for two days of calling, $10 for 7 days and $30 for 30 days. All calls are carried on the AT&T network, the company said.

“When I heard that we could help reconnect families and help mend broken hearts for as little as a dollar a day, I knew we were on to something really special,” said Antonio Swad, founder of Pizza Patron. “It’s the kind of thing that a patron would bring to his people, so we are doing it.”

Unlike traditional calling cards, which deduct from the value by the number of minutes used, these cards allow unlimited calling to any area code in Mexico by the day.

Pizza Patron drew attention earlier this year when it decided to accept both Mexican pesos and U.S. dollars for purchases in all its U.S. stores, many of which are located in states that border Mexico

Pizza Patron has units in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada and Texas.
