DALLAS Pizza Hut has added the Ultimate Grill Pizza to its menu for a limited time and is promoting it with an online giveaway.
The specialty pizza is meant to evoke the "seared and smoky flavor" of outdoor grilling, officials of the 6,200-unit chain said Monday. It's available as a medium or large in three varieties: the Ultimate Meat Grill, which features grilled steak, grilled chicken and ham; the Ultimate Combo Grill, which has grilled steak, grilled chicken, ham and a grilled pepper blend; and the Ultimate Veggie Grill, which is topped with a grilled pepper blend, mushrooms and onions. A medium Ultimate Grill sells for $10.99. A large is priced at $12.99.
Pizza Hut is promoting the summertime pizza with the Ultimate Grill Giveaway Prize Package, which will award a grill an hour to customers who enter the contest online. Those winners also will be eligible for the grand prize, a Char-Broil Infrared Commercial Series Grill and an assortment of grilling tools.
Also on Monday, Pizza Hut told the Reuters news service that it would roll out its "all-natural" pizza nationwide next year after tests in the Seattle, Denver and Dallas markets. The Natural features a multigrain crust, a sauce made from organic tomatoes, all-natural cheese and such toppings as all-natural chicken sausage and roasted red peppers.
Officials from parent company Yum! Brands Inc. told investors and analysts late last year that Pizza Hut would debut a "healthier pizza" as part of a slate of new menu items across the Yum chains. Yum is also the parent of the KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silver's and A&W brands.
