P.F. Chang’s inks deal to expand to Canada

P.F. Chang's China Bistro Inc. will be expanding to Canada with under a new licensing agreement, the company said Thursday.

The deal calls for Interaction Asian Restaurants LP to develop and operate P.F. Chang’s restaurants in the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. The first unit is scheduled to open in 2012.

Interaction Asian Restaurants is controlled by Michael Aronovici, who serves as president of Interaction Restaurants Group Inc., a restaurant management and holding company. Aronovici also serves on the boards of Prime Restaurants of Canada Inc., a casual-dining company in Canada, and the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association.

“We continue to selectively seek out great partners to help us extend the reach of P.F. Chang’s to additional countries around the world,” said Mike Welborn, president of global brand development for P.F. Chang’s, which is based in Scottsdale, Ariz.

According to its website, P.F. Chang’s already has international locations in Mexico and the Middle East.

At the end of its fourth quarter, Jan. 2, P.F. Chang’s operated 201 casual-dining bistro units and 168 fast-casual Pei Wei Asian Diner restaurants.
