No. 7 - Froots Fresh Smoothies, Salads & Wraps

Editor's note: This is part of an exclusive online series by Nation's Restaurant News and Chain Store Guide, profiling the restaurant industry's top 10 growth chains. Come back to NRN.com's Special Reports page in the coming weeks to find new profiles highlighting the industry's fastest-growing players based on five-year unit growth rates.

Froots Fresh Smoothies, Salads & Wraps promotes itself as a healthy alternative to traditional fast food.

In addition to its juices and smoothies, Froots features a menu of gourmet wraps, panini sandwiches, salads and soups. The chain also offers breakfast wraps.

Froots faces big competition in the smoothie market from segment leader Jamba Juice as well as smaller players like Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Smoothie King, all of which have been working in recent months to diversify their menus with new food offerings. Meanwhile, some fast-food chains have added smoothies, including Jack in the Box and McDonald's, which expects to have its Real Fruit Smoothies in U.S. stores this summer.

The entirely franchised Froots has kiosks as well as locations in mall food courts, in-line shopping centers and in-line urban units.

Like many restaurant companies, Froots said it is looking to expand its international presence. The chain currently has locations in Panama, Turks and Caicos, Honduras, Guam, and Singapore, and in January signed on a master franchisee for Kuwait.
