MONTPELIER Vt. The New England Culinary Institute’s board of directors has hired a new president, Robert Myers. He replaces Fran Voigt, who presided over the school for close to 30 years.
Dr. Myers, 58, most recently was president of Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H. He served in that role for the past four years. Myers received his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, based in College Park, Md. From the same university, he earned a master's degree in public relations and a doctorate in education.
He also has served as a president at the University of Maryland and chancellor of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Myers is a pilot and has a serious interest in cooking, the New England Culinary Institute said in a statement Tuesday.
“When I become 70, I’d like to remain at NECI, but in a different capacity,” he said. “I’d like to become a student here.”
Voigt, a co-founder of NECI, plans to continue there as chief executive officer. The institute was founded in 1980.
