Nationals pick Centerplate for new stadium

STAMFORD Conn. Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals team has selected sports and entertainment foodservice specialist Centerplate Inc. to be concessionaire at Nationals Park, the team’s new stadium in southeast Washington, D.C.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Centerplate officials said the company would oversee culinary and merchandising operations throughout the 41,000-seat ballpark, including its guest suites and club facilities. Nationals Park is expected to open in time for the 2008 baseball season.

Centerplate replaces Philadelphia-based Aramark Corp., which holds the foodservice contract at the Nationals’ current home, RFK Stadium.
