National Pork Board selects Celebrated Chefs to act as 2008 ambassadors for the protein

DES MOINES IOWA —The National Pork Board, which represents pork producers in the United States, has selected five chefs to act as spokespeople this year for America’s Pork Checkoff.

This marks the 12th year the NPB has showcased the Celebrated Chefs program. The 2008 Celebrated Chefs are Mark Orfaly of Pigalle in Boston; Debra Paquette of Zola in Nashville, Tenn.; Kent Rathbun of Abacus and Jasper’s in Dallas; Joseph Royer of Saturn Grill in Nichols Hills, Okla.; and Charlie Torgerson of Famous Dave’s in Rogers, Minn. —The National Pork Board, which represents pork producers in the United States, has selected five chefs to act as spokespeople this year for America’s Pork Checkoff.

Larry Cizek, culinary and niche market development director, said: “The Celebrated Chefs program, developed in 1996, is designed to keep pork at the forefront of the latest menu trends. The Celebrated Chefs program showcases the diverse uses of pork through speaking engagements, participation in operator workshops, cooking demonstrations and innovative menu development.
