McDonald's introduces Angus Snack Wraps

McDonald’s has rolled out Angus Snack Wraps nationwide, a product that combines two of the chain's recent successes in its menu diversification strategy.

Melding the miniaturization and portability of its Snack Wrap and the premium-burger flavor profiles of its Angus Third Pounder line, the new menu item comes in three varieties: Deluxe, Bacon & Cheese, and Mushroom & Swiss.

“At McDonald’s, we recognize that our customers are looking for more options to accommodate their adventurous tastes and busy lifestyles,” said Wade Thoma, the chain’s vice president of U.S. menu management. “The new Angus Snack Wraps combine the bold Angus beef taste and flavorful toppings like red-ring onions and sautéed mushrooms that our customers love, now with the convenience and everyday value they expect from McDonald’s.”

Earlier this summer, McDonald's executive chef, Dan Coudreaut, spoke with Nation's Restaurant News about the development of the Angus Snack Wraps. Click here for the video.

The Angus Snack Wraps combine half of a third-pound Angus patty with the ingredients of the full-size sandwiches in a flour tortilla.

Since its introduction in 2006, the Snack Wrap has expanded from an original grilled- or crispy-chicken version to include a miniature version of McDonald’s signature sandwich, the Mac Snack Wrap. The chain’s lineup of Angus Third Pounders debuted last year.

The item was selling for $1.99 in Chicago, compared with $1.49 for the two kinds of chicken Snack Wrap.

Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s operates or franchises more than 32,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, including more than 14,000 units in the United States.
