McD units in So. Cal. offer locator for coffee

LOS ANGELES A group of more than 600 McDonald’s restaurant operators in Southern California on Monday launched an online locator to help consumers find locations that sell the McCafe line of coffee drinks.

About 150 McDonald’s in Southern California now offer the line of McCafe espresso-based coffees, which the chain began rolling out nationwide last year. The McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California, or MOASC, includes both franchise and corporate units throughout the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.

The group’s website, www.mcdonaldssocal.com, on Monday included a search feature that allows consumers to search by zip code or city within Southern California. The website will be updated regularly as more McCafe locations are added, the group said.

“By adding our espresso-based McCafe coffees to the menu, we hope to become the ideal beverage destination for our local customers,” said Ti Chang, a McDonald’s operator and president of MOASC. “We encourage consumers to go to our website to locate their nearest McCafe restaurant — then head to McDonald’s to try our new specialty drinks.”

Corporate officials say such promotions are being handled on a regional basis. Operator groups in regions across the country have launched similar efforts, including Kentucky/Central Indiana/Illinois, San Diego, Ohio, and various overseas locations.
