OAK BROOK, Ill. McDonald’s Corp. plans to double the number of its restaurants in Poland, from 210 to 420, over the next decade, according to a company statement.

McDonald’s Polska opened its first restaurant in the country in Warsaw in 1992. The burger chain expects to start offering breakfast there this year, complete with a wider range of coffees, and to introduce free Internet access in its restaurants.

American-owned quick-service competitors that also are growing in Poland, which has a population of 38 million, include Pizza Hut, KFC and Burger King, which recently opened its first unit there and intends to open seven more before the end of the year, according to a published report.

That report quoted Piotr Jucha, McDonald’s Polska managing director, as saying that McDonald’s holds a 60 percent share of the country’s fast-food market.
