Jack in the Box rolls new premium burger

SAN DIEGO Jack in the Box has debuted what it touts as the quick-service industry's first all-sirloin burger. Guests are able to customize their burgers, which are 1/3 of a pound, with a choice of American, Cheddar or Swiss cheese and either grilled or red onions.

Two of the featured 100% Sirloin burgers are the Sirloin Cheese Burger and the Sirloin Bacon and Cheese Burger, available for the suggested prices of $3.99 and $4.59, respectively. Both feature peppercorn mayo, pickle strips, lettuce, tomato and onions on a toasted bakery-style bun.

"When consumers hear 'sirloin' they know they're getting a premium product," said Teka O'Rourke, director of menu marketing for Jack in the Box Inc., operator and franchisor here of the regional quick-service chain. "Our new 100% Sirloin Burger elevates our menu and raises the bar for the quick-serve industry."

The new line was rolled out after being tested in San Diego. The move coincided with the test by arch-rival McDonald's of a one-third-pound burger made with Angus beef.

Jack in the Box, based here, operates and franchises more than 2,000 restaurants in 17 states. The company also operates a 50-unit chain of convenience stores called Quick Stuff, and operates or franchises more than 300 Qdoba Mexican Grill units.
