Jack in the Box debuts grilled chicken salad

SAN DIEGO Joining an increasing number of quick-service players offering lower-calorie menu options, Jack in the Box announced Monday the extension of its salad line with the introduction of a new Grilled Chicken Salad.

The new entrée includes a blend of romaine, iceberg and spring mix lettuces with cheddar cheese, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion, shredded carrots and croutons, and is topped with grilled chicken. The salad is served with low-fat balsamic dressing on the side.

The Grilled Chicken Salad has about 480 calories and 16 grams of fat. It is available for a recommended price of $4.99 throughout the 2,200-unit Jack in the Box system.

Other quick service chains, including Taco Bell, Subway, Burger King and Dunkin’ Donuts, have also been promoting better-for-you options on their menus.

“Guests seeking healthier menu alternatives will enjoy our new Grilled Chicken Salad,” said Tammy Bailey, division vice president of menu marketing and promotions for Jack in the Box Inc., based in San Diego. “It has a wide variety of tasty ingredients and can be enjoyed as a balanced meal.”

Jack in the Box noted that the new item meets the nutrition standards of Healthy Dining, a website that promotes more healthful options on restaurant menus.
