Industry veterans debut new burger concept in Plano, Texas

PLANO Texas Rich Hicks, who founded the fast-casual Tin Star in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and Todd Istre, founder of the Boudreaux’s Cajun Kitchen and Taters Kountry Kitchen concepts in Houston, are debuting a new concept called Mooyah Burgers & Fries here on April 7.

Mooyah's features a stream-lined menu of two types of burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, fresh-cut fries and shakes.

When the concept opens on Saturday, the first 100 customers will win a free burger a week for year.

Hicks said he expects a line at the new store on Saturday morning, and he likened the menu’s simplicity to that of In-N-Out Burger.

Istre said the Plano site, near the Willow Bend shopping center, offers a good demographic base. “The residents are combination of busy professionals, schools and families that appreciate a simple menu and a great meal.”

Robert Andersen, formerly director of franchise development at Boston Pizza Restaurants of Irving, Texas, is president of the new concept.
