Einstein Noah debuts ‘contactless’ payment

GOLDEN Colo. Einstein Noah Restaurant Group has installed “contactless” card readers in its more than 400 company-owned Einstein Bros Bagels and Noah’s Bagels restaurants, allowing customers to pay for purchases with a wave of their credit cards.

Golden, Colo.-based Einstein Noah joins several other quick-service chains, including McDonald’s, Jack in the Box and Carl’s Jr., in using the radio frequency identification technology to speed up credit card transactions. The cards are embedded with a chip that communicates with the reader via a radio frequency to process and complete the transaction. The system accepts cards from American Express, Master Card International, Visa USA and Discover.

The card readers reportedly can shave seconds off transaction times as customers simply hold their cards over the reader. Purchases under $25 do not require a signature.
