Early returns peg Va.’s Warner, Ky.’s Yarmuth as industry’s first winners

ALEXANDRIA Va. A quest by eight restaurateurs for seats in the U.S. Congress got off to a successful start Tuesday evening when Majestic Café co-owner and former governor Mike Warner was projected the winner of the state’s Senate race. Minutes later, Rep. John Yarmuth, a co-owner of the Sonny’s BBQ chain, was projected as the winner of the race to represent Kentucky’s third district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Yarmuth, a Democrat, beat Anne Northup, 57 percent versus 43 percent.

Warner, also a Democrat, handily beat Republican James Gilmore III with a projected 57 percent of votes. The two were vying for the seat that was vacated by legendary Republican John Warner, who retired. Mark Warner is not related to John Warner.

Majestic Café is located here.
