Dunkin’ Donuts rolls out new chicken sandwich

CANTON Mass. Dunkin’ Donuts said Thursday it has introduced an oven-toasted chicken Parmesan sandwich, the newest variety in the flatbread product line the chain first introduced in 2007.

The sandwich is priced at $3.99 and consists of lightly breaded, seasoned chicken topped with melted provolone cheese and marinara sauce in easy-to-hold flatbread. Chain officials said the item would be available at all Dunkin’ Donuts stores except those located in New England.

Other flatbread sandwich varieties include ham and swiss, turkey, cheddar and bacon, and grilled cheese. Last year, Dunkin’ also introduced two egg white flatbread sandwiches — one with turkey sausage and the other with vegetables — as part of its DDSMART better-for-you product line. Both varieties are served on multigrain bread and contain fewer than 300 calories.

Dunkin’ Donuts, a division of Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands Inc., operates more than 8,800 restaurants in 31 countries and reported systemwide sales of more than $5.5 billion in 2008.
