Domino’s, B-R co-test ice cream in India; Pizza Hut tries TV ads

ANN ARBOR Mich. Domino’s Pizza India Ltd. has teamed up with Baskin-Robbins to test ice cream at its 147 restaurants in India. The four flavors being tested include vanilla, Very Berry Strawberry, Butterscotch Ribbon and chocolate — all offered in three portion sizes.

Domino's Pizza India Ltd. is the master franchisee for India and Nepal of Domino's Pizza International Inc., based here. Domino’s has more than 8,000 restaurants in 55 countries. Baskin-Robbins, which is owned by Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin’ Brands, has more than 5,600 outlets worldwide.

Separately, rival Pizza Hut has more than 130 restaurants in India and just started its first television advertising campaign there. The full-service brand, which is owned by Yum! Brands Inc., offers some locally popular pizza flavors, including tandoori and masala. Pizza Hut also carries a line of vegetarian dishes, since many Indians do not eat meat.

Pizza Hut, which is based in Dallas, has more than 10,200 locations around the globe.
