Cracker Barrel to bring back 'Campfire' meals

LEBANON Tenn. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store said it is resurrecting two successful menu items from the past and adding a new one to create a limited-time offer called Campfire Grill.

The Campfire Grill items will be available at all 588 units of the family-dining chain from May 11 to July 4. The original Campfire Beef and Campfire Chicken were introduced in 1997 and 1999, respectively, with the chicken dish last offered in 2005.

Both the Campfire Chicken and Campfire Beef dishes are slow-roasted in aluminum foil and served with carrots, corn on the cob, carrots and red-skin potatoes along with a choice of corn muffins or buttermilk biscuits. The chicken is priced at $8.49 and the beef is $8.99.

The new dish, Chicken Pineapple Salad, features marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, crunchy pecans and chopped pineapple served on a bed of greens and topped with Monterey Jack cheese. Spokeswoman Julie Davis said the dish “has a lighter, fresh flavor profile that is still themed for campfire.” The dish is priced at $7.99.

Davis said the chain wanted to time the promotion to “tie-in with summer vacations, camping trips, road trips, the nostalgia associated with childhood experiences around the campfire.”
