Cosi touts fresh herbs on new fall items

Cosi this week rolled out limited-time offers for fall consisting of a salad, pizza and sandwich that each highlights a different fresh herb.

The Chicken Bruschetta Salad of mixed greens is tossed with basil, grilled chicken breast, cannellini beans, tomatoes, red onion, cracked pepper, Romano cheese, mixed greens and fat-free balsamic vinaigrette. According to the company’s website, the salad consists of 621 calories and six grams of saturated fat.

In the sandwich section is a Chicken Tinga featuring pulled chicken that is slow-simmered in a chipotle-tomato based sauce. It is sandwiched with guacamole, pico de gallo, crumbed feta cheese and fresh cilantro. The dish, which is being marketed as a “favorite of Mexico,” has 555 calories, seven grams of saturated fat, and weighs 13 ounces.

The Chicken Bolognese Flatbread Pizza includes tomato sauce, chicken, bacon, mozzarella, Romano and Parmesan cheese. The pizza is finished with fresh oregano and is listed as weighing 16 ounces. It has 1,058 calories and 18 grams of saturated fat.

In June, Cosi named Kimberly Letizia as its director of culinary innovation and menu strategy. She most recently served as corporate chef consultant to Kraft Foods.

The Deerfield, Ill.-based Cosi reported having 144 locations at the end of the 2010 second quarter. At the time, 86 stores were company-owned. Calls to the headquarters in reference to prices were unanswered.
