Carl's Jr., Jack in the Box reintroduce LTOs

CARPINTERIA Calif. The Carl’s Jr. and Jack in the Box regional burger chains have both reached back to 2006 for their latest limited-time promotional offers. Carl’s is touting heat with its Jalapeno Chicken Sandwich, a riff on the Jalapeno Burger that debuted two years ago and later become a permanent menu item. Jack, meanwhile, is showcasing three versions of its Acapulco Chicken Salad, including one that’s topped with spicy chicken pieces.

Both LTOs are premium priced. Carl’s is selling the jalapeno chicken sandwich, which also features pepperjack cheese and a Santa Fe-style sauce atop a grilled chicken fillet, for $3.99 a la cart or $5.99 as part of a meal that also includes soft drink and fries. The Acapulco Chicken Salads, also available with grilled or fried chicken strips, are priced at about $4.99.

Carl’s, based here, has 1,141 corporate and franchised units. It is owned by CKE Restaurants Inc., which also operates and franchises the 1,926-store Hardee’s brand.

Jack in the Box Inc., based in San Diego, operates or franchises 2,100 namesake restaurants, as well as the 400-unit Qdoba Mexican Grill chain.
