Bruegger's Bagels adds kids' meals

BURLINGTON Vt. Officials for Bruegger’s said Monday the chain is adding kids’ meals at all 290 of its fast-casual restaurants.

The new menu, which began rolling out Oct. 1, features such items as grilled cheese on a whole-wheat bagel, peanut butter and jelly on whole-wheat bread, and a bagel with cream cheese. The sandwiches, which are served with such side options as fresh fruit, applesauce or chips, are priced between $2.89 and $3.49. Drinks are not included.

The kids’ meal menu was developed in order to “create value for parents and highlight our healthy options," said Jim Greco, the company’s chief executive.

On Monday night, Greco was named Operator of the Year by Nation's Restaurant News at its Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators conference.

Separately, a spokeswoman for the company said Greco is still looking at possible locations for the chain’s first New York City unit and is currently making a push in the Atlanta market, with four company-owned stores planned to open in the first quarter of 2010. The company also is eying possible franchised locations in Texas, Washington state and Portland, Ore.
