Broccoli truck disappears; $50K in produce missing

VILLA PARK, ILL. —Increasing the amount of produce in your diet is one thing, but stealing $50,000 worth of broccoli is, well, a whole other kettle of fish.

According to a report by the Associated Press, a 48-foot trailer parked here last month reportedly disappeared without a trace, police said. —Increasing the amount of produce in your diet is one thing, but stealing $50,000 worth of broccoli is, well, a whole other kettle of fish.

Detective Ed Zorich said the alleged thief probably wasn’t a great fan of the green vegetable. He probably was more interested in the trailer and not its contents. “What is someone going to do with that amount of produce?” he asked. “On the black market, I can’t imagine that’s something that’s worth money to anybody.” —Increasing the amount of produce in your diet is one thing, but stealing $50,000 worth of broccoli is, well, a whole other kettle of fish.

Though police entered a report of the theft into a stolen-vehicle database, there were no immediate leads. —Increasing the amount of produce in your diet is one thing, but stealing $50,000 worth of broccoli is, well, a whole other kettle of fish.

“We have homicides happening in town,” Zorich said. “We’re not really looking for a truck of broccoli right now.” —Increasing the amount of produce in your diet is one thing, but stealing $50,000 worth of broccoli is, well, a whole other kettle of fish.
