BK whips up Indy promo

MIAMI Burger King said it is counting on the "cross-generational appeal" of the Indiana Jones series in a tie-in with the latest movie that includes a new Whopper, contests and Kids Meal toys.

The Indy Double Whopper features two quarter-pound beef patties topped with two slices of pepperjack cheese, four slices of bacon, spicy Cajun mayo, tomatoes, lettuce and onions on a toasted bun. The sandwich, available for a limited time, is priced at $4.29.

Burger King also developed a scratch-and-win contest and an online game as part of its tie-in with "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," which opens May 22. Scratch-and-win game pieces are available with certain menu items, and prizes include $1 million, a 2008 Hummer H2, a trip for four to Peru and free food from Burger King. In the online game, players enter a special code from their game pieces and "dig" for a cash prize.

In addition, Burger King's Kids Meals will each contain one of eight toys based on scenes from all four of the Indiana Jones movies.

Burger King said it would support the Indy tie-in with TV spots, in-store merchandising and special packaging.

“The cross-generational appeal and cultural phenomenon of the Indiana Jones series make this one of the most coveted entertainment partnerships,” said Brian Gies, vice president of marketing impact for Burger King Corp.

Miami-based Burger King operates or franchises 11,400 restaurants worldwide.
