BK taps Jose Cil to lead Europe, Middle East and Africa division

Burger King Corp. has named Jose Cil as president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa division, the company said Monday.

Cil, who most recently was vice president and regional manager for Walmart in Florida, previously worked with Burger King from 2000 to 2008 in both global and domestic executive positions. He succeeds Kevin Higgins, who was let go in late October in a management overhaul after 3G Capital, a New York-based and Brazilian-backed investment company, took the nation’s No. 2 burger chain private.

Miami-based Burger King said Cil will report to Bernardo Hees, Burger King’s new chief executive, and will be based in Zug, Switzerland, where the company has its headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“We’ve experienced strong growth in Europe and the Middle East in the past few years,” Hees said in a statement, “and we are confident that Jose’s leadership will continue to build on our accomplishments and take our business in the region to the next level.”

Burger King operates and franchises more than 12,150 restaurants worldwide.
