BK asks customers to cast vote in sundae/shake debate

MIAMI Burger King Corp. is promoting its new Oreo Sundae Shake with an online poll that asks consumers to decide whether the product actually is a sundae or a shake.

Visitors to www.sundaeorshake.com can vote and enter for a chance to win such prizes such as an 80GB Apple iPod, $10 iTunes gift cards and $10 BK Crown Cards. Consumers also can play a video game called “Down the Pipe” on the website or download it as a widget.

According to Burger King's website, the Oreo Sundae Shake is a blend of Oreo cookie pieces and vanilla, chocolate or strawberry ice cream. It's topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream and served in a cup with a straw.

Early results in the online poll showed 54 percent of visitors to the site had deemed the treat a sundae, and 46 percent had called it a shake.

The promotion, which will end Sept. 28, is supported by banner ads on targeted websites including www.vh1.com, www.mtv.com, www.espn.com, www.oreo.com and www.foodchannel.com to drive traffic to Burger King’s contest site.

Burger King has more than 11,500 units worldwide.
