Belatti’s Equicorp buys 59-unit BK franchisee

ATLANTA Equicorp Partners LLC, an investment company run by former AFC Enterprises Inc. chairman Frank Belatti, has acquired a 59-unit Burger King franchise from Bryan Applefield, a 27-year veteran of the BK system, according to franchisor Burger King Corp.

Also involved in Equicorp are two other former AFC executives, Fred Beilstein and Allan Tanenbaum. AFC is the parent of the Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits quick-service concept.

The acquired units are located throughout the Florida panhandle and southern Alabama, including the cities of Tallahassee, Pensacola, and Dothan, where Applefield is based. Equicorp is based here.

Frank Rackstraw, president of Applefield’s BK franchise, will continue in the same capacity at Equicorp, the company said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Burger King operates or franchises about 11,100 quick-service burger restaurants worldwide.
